Carrot, Red Lentil & Garam Masala Puree
This purée makes a nice filling meal as the lentils provide lots of healthy protein. The garam masala adds spice without heat so helps stop the puree tasting bland.
As it’s a puree its suitable for all the family to eat and it is a great first food for babies who have just started weaning or for children and adults who struggle with eating and/or swallowing.
Enjoy it hot or cold. Pair it up with finger food or bread of your choice for a tasty lunch or dinner. It can also be watered down into a soup.
Ideal for freezing for other meals - in ice-cube trays for weaning or in containers for adults.

Prep: under 10 minutes
Cook: 20–30 minutes
Ingredients
1 carrots, peeled and thickly sliced
50g red lentils, rinsed
1 tsp garam masala
Method
1. Place the carrots and red lentils in a pan, cover with cold water and bring to the Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 20 minutes until both the carrots and lentils are tender.
2. Remove from the heat, add the garam masala and use a hand blender to blitz until smooth (or use a food processor).
Top tips:
- Cook the carrots for a few minutes before adding the lentils so that the carrots are soft and the lentils are not too mushy.
- Check the level of water a few times whilst it is cooking to make sure there is enough. Add a bit more as required to keep the food covered with water.
- We added some vegetable bouillon powder for extra flavour. If you are concerned about adding salt to babies food, we suggest splitting the puree and only adding the powder to the portion which adults will be eating.
