This is the first post of a regular series of Spotlight blog posts we’ll be adding to our blog!
There are so many great organisations out there doing amazing things and we want to do our little bit to help spread the word!
This first post focuses on dementia, a condition that touches many of us.
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity.
“Every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. It is the UK’s biggest killer and we currently have no way of preventing, curing or even slowing it down. Dementia is quite simply the biggest health and social care crisis of our time.
Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training and support services to all who need our help, and we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so more people can live well with dementia.”
What can we do?
The Alzheimer's Society’s website gives some advice and resources on how groups can come together to create more dementia friendly communities and organisations - What is a dementia friendly community?
If you work in a school or with young people, you could teach the younger generation how to be dementia friendly.
Or perhaps you could become a volunteer?
However, something we can all do, is simply to be more mindful of people’s differing needs, and be as dementia-friendly as we can everyday!
The Online Shop
The mission of the Online Shop is to raise money to support Alzheimer’s Society’s vital work.
“As well as gifts and branded merchandise, we sell a wide range of assistive products to allow people affected by dementia to live well and longer in their own homes. By selling branded Christmas cards and merchandise we also help to raise brand awareness of Alzheimer’s Society and the work we do. The shop also supports other teams across Fundraising and the wider Society to raise income and awareness.”
The shop has a fantastic range of products! We love this brilliant clock!
It looks stylishly simple but has a dual display of either, the date, time and day of the week, or a more descriptive ‘Now it’s Monday afternoon’ for those who find time orientation a challenge!
You can also find some Care Designs products in the Alzheimer’s Society shop. We are delighted, knowing that any of our products purchased via this shop will support such important work!
